The Ocean's Secret

I was up late at night drawing, not tired but in a good calm mood. I sketched this out, which was difficult and time consuming for me to do since I was approaching a much different style than what I usually work in and at the same time try to develop a story behind it, something among ocean/sea and boats and sailors and such. Will keep in note incase I wanna develop it into some full story/idea since I like how the sketch came out.

Christmas Crepes

Today me and my sister agreed on making crepes for Christmas and just have fun in the kitchen and enjoyed the holidays. It was a delicious treat and all made from scratch, even the whipping cream was whipped from scratch which took a little of elbow grease but worth getting the rich flavor of whipped cream with no additives and such.

Here are some pics, Happy Christmas to all!

Happy Early Halloween!

I made this cake, for Thursday that pass for my watercolor class, everyone found it delicious and fun to look at!

I was going to make it look like a jack o lantern but the project took way longer than expected especially making the cake and fondant all on the same day.I did learn a lot from making this, and will definitely plan ahead when making fondant type cakes!

Time Investment

I was watching a few art streams and listening to an artist, how he has improved as an artist within just a few years of. but, within those few years he took the time to invest in a lot of studies (a lot) and goal/motivation to get to where he is.

I reflected back at myself, and noticed that this is true. When I first started drawing, I would spam papers of artwork on a daily basis, and naturally I would see the improvement. As For today, I am a bit more passive and taking more of my time due to school. I do clarify that I am not using school as an excuse, but that it is at time a big time investment element circulating in my life at the moment. Nevermore, I am going to start investing my gaming time/spare time into studying more on drawing again. In hopes with this concept and time, my artwork will improve drastically.

I hope to be posting a lot of more bad and good sketches soon with this new approach. I want to improve as an artist and see results and be less passive/worried about the outcome.

Study Poses and Shapes

Still continuing on my studies. Been trying to work just a pinch out of my comfort zone, with different poses that I don't usually do often and clothing that I don't often draw. Since I tend to learn towards more medieval/renaissance look.

Another semester!

Currently taking Art history, Religious studies, Watercolor, Nutrition and English 7 online!

So far I find a ll of my teachers very pleasing and fun, so this semester will go pretty smooth.

I recently got my watercolor piece back from the student art show which was also showcased at some place else which Ill share soon as my batter is charged for  I did not notice it was dead! Besides that, summer was fun, did a variety of sketching, painting, and most of just relax.

I am currently reading, Finding flow for an english class which I have to say is very interesting!

Sketching around for fun.

Summer Gardening

Hey guys! Semester is over, and im enjoying any form of sun that comes out during the summer! I am also doing small gardening here and there, I am random growing chilly peppers and cantaloupe seeds for the fun, and so for they have finally sprouted in my tiny green house I made using a chicken rotisserie plastic case! it works great keeping the dirt moist/warm for the seeds to grow and develop.

I am also for fun growing a rose from a cane. And, this year we had a nice bloom of cherries, 2-3 bowls full! I shared a nice cup of them to my friend, who enjoyed them very highly.

here some photos to share!

Green house-made simply with the Rotisserie plastic case, I always try to find a way to recycle items instead of throwing them away.

And the small sprouts inside, up close.

our cherry tree, zoomed in. We had to pick our cherries pretty quick when they were ready or the birds come in and pick them off for themselves!

and our small yummy morning harvest for today.

And a rose cane which im growing from a pot, just going to experiment and have fun practicing growing roses and such. Pruning/care etc. So I look forward to seeing this cane bloom/grow anytime soon.

Besides that! I am waiting for a package to come to the mail, possibly today. A good friend of mine ordered me a spindle, which I look forward to trying out/practicing to making my own yarn!

Will update as the seedlings grow and see how they develop through out the summer and when I receive my spindle!

Hamburger Cake

On tuesday, we learned how to cut/design our cakes into certain shapes. From the list that we can choose, I picked the hamburger. Other items on the list were, book, football, barbie dress, and butterfly.

This was really a fun project, and we also got the chance to experience learning using a air brush gun (edible paint) to paint our designs. At the end of the day, it was very tempting not to slice my cake and have a piece. Saving it for my watercolor class on thursday, I am sure they will enjoy it highly and have a good chuckle.

Since my cake was pretty big to start off with, I decided to make it into a double cheese burger of awesome.

Paper Making and Books!

Today was very exciting. I had my friend Jennifer come over  for we can get the chance
to make paper! We simply cut up and blended some old papers/bills and recycle them into pulp to be turned into new paper as shown below.

My friend who decided the color of our paper (pink and purple ish) once our paper was blended, we simply poured it on to the screen evenly and distributed it, till it spread nicely on the screen.

Once it it was on the screen and ready to go. We put a towel over it and try to squeeze the excess water out.
After wards he let it sit for a for a minute or 2, than flip it over on a towel carefully and let it fall off the screen gently, and "tada!" you got yourself a piece of wet paper. Now you simply press the town against it to squeeze anymore excess water. Last step is simply ironing it if ya want to speed up the drying process or a nice smooth finish.

Afterward I cut my paper in half once fully dry , one for me and my friend. I drew on it and tested it.

It works great for drawing, but not for watercolor painting, the paper starts to soak up and will tear. but I believe heavy paint like gouache will work, as long as you don't add water to it or is not to "watery".

last but least, I said I would post books that I have been reading, but didn't get the chance!

These are 2 books I recommend for artist of any field involving in color.

This is a very easy to understand book on color. If your the type that likes simple and clean direct directions and want a simple and easy going start of on color theory and applying it to your painting this is the book for you.. It goes over a variety of important topics such as color wheel, and how to use color to create pleasing compositional and color coordinated pictures. What is also a nice touch is a page on how different time of the day effects color such as morning colors compare to evening. So if ya wondering how to paint a foggy or cold morning or a sunset colors in the evening. This book has it and in a very simple and clean way! You cant go wrong with this.

Recommend this to all artist of level.

The second book is Color and light. if your a more advance Artist (but also recommend to beginners if your up to it) and wanting to expand your knowledge on color and knowledge on manipulating color, you need this book. James Gurney goes over the formulas and methods of painting. This is not a step by step, but a book on understanding the fundamentals and technical side of color. The book provides in depth knowledge on color  and history on how previous artist learned and used color and their methods/problem solving. . if you take the time to read this book and practice through it. You will be able to pretty much paint any color and any color combination/harmony for your personal needs or work.

That is all for now, tomorrow if not, I will post another book topic, by the same author "James Gurney". But I think for today, the blog has enough agenda for reading.

Spring break and Art Projects!

My spring break kicks off today! I have been waiting for this break to kick in since last week! Around this time, at least for me, students start to some what burn out a bit.

With plenty of time in my hand, this gives me the chance to do a decent blog update, and share some of finished paintings and current projects that is in W.I.P (work in progress)

Perfume Still Life
The Perfume Still Life this was a very interesting painting to do, I really enjoyed playing with all the perfume/bottle shapes and simply painting all the interesting colors that I saw.

Red Tree Stump
The Red Tree Stump  was originally suppose to be a abstract painting but ended up turning into a tree stump of some foliage.I took advantage of being loose at the beginning and simply playing with colors and not worrying about making "realistic colors", I am very pleased with the results and will try this method approach in the future.

finished sketch on my watercolor paper. I will be painting this very soon, for its one my assighments that I have to turn in for my class, plus 5 more to sketch during my break!

Last but least, playing around with pen nibs and testing it them out on a parchment paper that I recently bought. I love the old antique feel to it, I am also taking advantage of practicing the inking, since I plan on inking the watercolor sketch above once I lay down all the colors/washes.

I will do another blog update tomorrow, on my current reading material that I feel is really essential for any artist out there wanting to improve on there overall understanding of color and painting. But, for now I am simply enjoying the idea that I have nice 1 week spring break.

The first is a rose cake, simply learning roses, vines, and leaf pattern.

Rose Cake

The second cake is the Basket Weave, which came out really nice and surprisingly simple to make.

Basket Weave Cake

That is all for now, and hopefully I will continue the class to post more cake! Also expect some art paintings to be posted on the blog when spring break kicks in, by than I will have plenty of time to update.

Quick sketch and Custom brush

Hey guys! The weekend went pretty smoothly and it was pretty eventful, as previous said it was my mothers birthday and I also had to attend to a art reception which I will post soon when I get the photos from a fellow friend.

As for the picture above ive been testing some custom brushes that I have been making to fit my personal needs in digital art. So far, I really like the results, its smooth and gentle. My goal wasa pencil and pen feel in one brush setting. It works, and I will be using this brush for future digital sketching.
